The beach of Nazaré was awarded the Blue Flag for the bathing season 2016. The announcement was made on Friday by the Portuguese section of the Blue Flag Association of Europe (ABAE).
In total, 314 beaches, of which 292 coastal and 22 inland and 17 navies will unfurl the quality symbol during the summer.
The flag-raising ceremony of the Blue Flag beach of Nazaré, visited by thousands of tourists and visitors every year, will take place at the bathing season starts. The date will be announced in due course by the City Council.
Living the Sea
Under the Blue Flag campaign, Nazare Beach will make their environmental education activities “Living Sea”. Form sensitivities, informing about the different ecosystems and the threats to which they are subject, as well as on the natural and cultural heritage are some of the objectives of the program, which will last until the end of August.
The activities are in many different ways, from the organization of thematic tours (Nature Observation Tours, Legend and History) promoting several workshops related to the environment, through conducting numerous educational games.
