Here, in Foz do Arelho fresh water from Lagoa de Óbidos meets the Atlantic Ocean. And depending on the tide we will have a nice combo of fresh and salt water in the lagoon. Calm during low tide and with a current during high tide. The formation of the sand beach changes day by day. This is a paradise for water sports like kite surfing, SUP and windsurfing! And it is not deep – you reach the bottom almost everywhere – perfect when you are learning kite surfing!
The hills around the lagoon have many nice residential areas with nice views over the lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. Areas like Foz do Arelho and Nadadouro and nearby is also the city Caldas da Rainha where you find all you need. South of the lagoon are 4 golf courses: Praia d´el Rey, Bom Successo, Royal Óbidos and West cliffs – a paradise for the golfers!
To get here: 95 km from Lisbon airport to Caldas da Rainha and from there another 10 km out to Foz do Arelho on the coast.
