The west coast in the southern part of Portugal is still quite unexplored. This picture is from Vila Nova de Milfontes – a charming small town north of the river Mira where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. The picture was taken a day in December when the Russian junior national canoe team was here.
The river is a great place for canoeing or SUP. Paddle upstream during low tide on its way to high tide and back down stream when low tide is coming back. You will have several knots of free speed the whole day. The famous hiking trail “Fisherman´s trail” passes by here as well.
How to get here: Easiest by car. It is 135 km from the Faro airport and 190 km from Lisbon airport
