Where is that, you might wonder. In fact, quite far from mainland Portugal, but only 10 km by car from Funchal, the capital of Madeira. Madeira has a population of approximately 250.000 and half of them live in Funchal. Câmara de Lobos is a wonderful little fishing village that has grown into a modern and beautiful suburb in the west. The older charm remains with fishing boats in bright colors and beautiful outdoor cafes on the quay. Here Winston Churchill sat and painted in the 50’s.
The picture is from December this year and the text, barely visible in the upper left corner is a light loop that hangs over the bay and wishes Happy New Year – “Feliz Ano Novo”.
Enjoy a wonderful promenade along the shore all the way from the harbor in central Funchal to the picturesque Baia Câmara de Lobos. But first you need to get to Madeira. There are many flights per day from Lisbon – a short flight of less than 2 hours. And many charter companies have Madeira as a destination. We understand why – it is a beautiful island! Always green and with perfect climate all year around. Outdoor is like comfortable indoor temperature – never too hot, never too cold.
